In September, Prostate Cymru was invited by the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) Union, to take part in ‘Trade Union Week’ in Welsh Government buildings across South Wales. The week gave unions such as PCS, Prospect and FDA the opportunity to promote the benefits of union membership to Welsh Government employees and encourage them to sign up as members whilst organisations such as Prostate Cymru were invited to provide awareness of health issues.
Prostate Cymru’s Head of Awareness Dai John attended three events to raise awareness: the Rhydycar offices in Merthyr Tydfil on 21st September, Cathays Park offices in Cardiff on 22nd September and the QED Centre offices in Treforest on 25th September. Employees who visited the Prostate Cymru stand were able to learn more about prostate issues through leaflets and an interactive presentation, and Dai, who has had his own personal battle with prostate cancer, was on hand to answer all prostate disease related questions.
Awareness is a key part of our work at Prostate Cymru. Our awareness sessions can be tailored to your workplace or organisation. The awareness team, headed by Dai John, have provided awareness sessions to many companies this year, including Braces Bakery and Heatforce Ltd. Dai has also manned awareness stands at events such as the above union engagement week.
