This year, the 54321 Cymru challenge raised an incredible £2000 for Prostate Cymru.
A total of 31 riders fundraised for 24 different charities and talented artist, and proud supporter of Prostate Cymru, Tim Driscoll, took on the 54321 cycle challenge again for the charity with 54321 Cymru in May, 2021.
Initially, the challenge was meant to be a 200 mile cycle ride taking place from Friday 24th May to Tuesday 28th May in 2020.
However, due to the pandemic the 54321 Cymru challenge was postponed until 2021.
This year, the challenge was completed with a twist.
Instead of the riders beginning the 180-mile trip in Holland, cycling through Belgium before completing the challenge in France, the team completed the challenge locally over three days, ending at one of the event’s sponsors, Tiny Rebel Brewery.
In total the team raised £30,000 with £2,138 of the funds raised going to Prostate Cymru, and the fundraisers were rewarded with match funding from the sponsors of the event, Tiny Rebel Ltd and Whitehead Building Services.
Speaking about the event, Tim said, “Unfortunately I hurt my back two weeks prior to the bike ride and whilst completing the 54321 challenge I really started to feel it. On the Saturday we were really pushed to our limits with a lot climbs”
He continued, “Whilst it was difficult, it was so worth it to raise money as a team for some amazing charities.”
We are so grateful for anyone who decides to fundraise for us and would like to thank Tim for this fantastic fundraiser that will help us raise the funds needed to fulfil our core aims of raising awareness and supporting treatments and improving equipment for prostate diseases.
The charity sector has been hit hard by recent events and as a result we have lost a significant amount of fundraising this year due to lockdown restrictions and social distancing measures. If you’d be interested in fundraising for Prostate Cymru, click here to be taken to our fundraiser page.
