David Brace has been named Prostate Cymru’s new President.
The campaign to increase awareness of Prostate cancer in Wales and to continue the fight against the disease has received a major boost with the news that renowned Welsh businessman David Brace OBE is to become the president of the charity Prostate Cymru.
David, who is the founder and owner of the Bridgend based Dunraven Group, comprising Dunraven Windows, Sun Trade Windows, Braceys the Friendly Builders merchants and the Dunraven stud, will bring his considerable commercial expertise to the charity as well as supporting its campaigning and fundraising efforts.
With 550 men in Wales dying from prostate cancer every year, it remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Welsh men. However, Prostate Cymru points that, with greater awareness and early detection, it is a highly curable disease.
David Brace’s appointment means that Prostate Cymru will now become the main focus of the Dunraven Group’s charitable fundraising and, with more than 200,000 customers across Wales, the Group will also use its marketing expertise to increase public awareness of the charity’s campaigning work.
David said: “The tireless work of the founding members of the charity and the professionalism they have shown over the last decade is what really convinced me to get involved. The drive of these individuals, working with no agenda and often giving up so much of their free time, is something I admire hugely and I am honoured to serve as their president.”
Andrew Thomas, joint founder of Prostate Cymru, is equally enthusiastic. He said: “With Dunraven widely accepted as being the most successful Welsh based home improvement specialist, this is a partnership that will deliver brand exposure for us on a massive scale. Dunraven is a brand which embodies traditional family values and focuses on improving the quality of life for its customers, which makes it a perfect fit for both parties.”
Prostate Cymru has enjoyed notable successes in recent years, most recently with its campaign to persuade the Welsh government to fund potentially life-saving DaVinci robotic urology surgical systems for Wales for the first time.
David Brace OBE’s new role as President will see him engage directly with business partners to increase support for the charity, provide funding through the Dunraven Group and help to organise and sustain fundraising events.
