Congratulations to the 32 cyclists that completed their amazing 500 mile cycle from Porthcawl to Paris.
David Lloyd cycled 500 miles to Paris in time for his 50th birthday and the last day of the Tour de France!
David Lloyd, from Rest Bay roped in 31 other men to join him on his epic Porthcawl to Paris bike ride, which kicked off on July 22 and saw the team roll into Paris five days later just in time to see the final day of the Tour de France!
The cyclists, who were assisted by a support team of four, pledged to raise £250 for Prostate Cymru and Velindre Cancer Centre, in an attempt to raise a staggering £8,000.
Speaking ahead of the epic cycle, David Lloyd said, “I’m a keen cyclist and I’ve always wanted to go to Paris to watch the last day of the Tour on the Champs Elysees.
“We advertised at local rugby and cycling clubs and now there’s 32 of us going. We can’t wait to get started now – we’ve been planning this and in training for almost two years,” David explained.
David, who is employed as a safety officer at Dow Corning Ltd in the Vale of Glamorgan and is also a part-time firefighter in Porthcawl, roped in a number of colleagues from both his posts.
Among the team are friends Ray Giles, who has long supported Prostate Cymru, and Nathan Bennett whose mum was treated and supported by staff at Velindre – and it was for those reasons the group chose to fundraise for the two causes.
Thank you to the team and those who have donated from Prostate Cymru, we appreciate your support in raising awareness and funds to help us continue to fight prostate disease in Wales.
Haven’t donated yet? All proceeds will be shared evenly between Prostate Cymru and Velindre Cancer Centre. Thank you for helping to save Welsh lives! To sponsor the team, visit www.justgiving.com/porthcawltoparis
