Cefn Sidan Rotary Club President Nominee Godfrey Rees recently held an Art Exhibition under the title “The Affordable Picture Show” at the Ashburnham Hotel, Pembrey in support of Prostate Cymru.
There were 50 oil paintings on display– 40 of which had been painted by Godfrey and the others by his wife Sally who has been made a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International for her support of Godfrey by looking after him since she provided a kidney transplant for him in 2008.The event was an outstanding success raising £1,800 for Prostate Cymru.
What is even more remarkable about Godfrey, now aged 75, and a former detective in the Metropolitan Police before retiring and returning to Wales, is that he has been blind on two occasions in his life. It is through experimental surgery carried out at Moorefield’s Eye Hospital that he has regained his sight and he now enjoys painting prolifically and supporting charities such as Prostate Cymru through the sales of his work.
Pictured are Godfrey Rees, Ethne Phillips who opened the exhibition and John Daniels, trustee of Prostate Cymru.
