A team of 48 cycled from Barcelona to Monaco in September for Prostate Cymru. The epic ride was organised by Huw Jones of Finnegan’s Fish and Chips and David Lloyd, who previously organised the Porthcawl to Paris challenge in 2014.
The team battled challenging weather conditions such as persistent heavy rain on the first day from Barcelona to Platja d’Aro and tough terrain such as dirt and gravel tracks in strong winds on the third day from Canet to Sète, resulting in numerous punctures.
The fourth day was extremely special for the team as they tackled Mont Ventoux. At 1912 metres, Mont Ventoux is the highest mountain in the Provence region of France and is often used in the Tour de France. The extra challenge of cycling Mont Ventoux was incorporated into the already gruelling ride by the organisers. Luckily the cyclists had good weather for the relentless climb and were rewarded by amazing views at the summit.
Following their successful climb of Mont Ventoux on the fourth day, the group continued their journey through Southern France via Toulon and St Tropez. Whilst passing through Toulon, the team met renowned New Zealand rugby player Ma’a Nonu who plays for Toulon at club level.
The team completed their challenge, arriving in Monaco on the 23rd September. The English professional road and track cyclist Adam Blythe congratulated the team on their successful ride.
