This year’s Royal Welsh Agricultural Show was once again a wonderful occasion and a very special event for its President Brian Jones MBE, the founder and Managing Director of Castell Howell Foods, from Carmarthen.
Carmarthenshire is the host county for the show this year is and its enthusiastic and committed fund raising committee, under the Chairmanship of Meirion Owen, have been exceptionally busy for a considerable period with numerous events throughout the county raising money to improve the equestrian facilities at the show. The committee have so far raised over £300,000 with more events still to take place.
The Carmarthenshire fundraising committee has also had great satisfaction in utilising its role, by publishing a calendar in support of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, Prostate Cymru and the Peony Breast Care Unit at Prince Phillip Hospital, Llanelli as they wanted to benefit others who are suffering from illnesses as well as fundraising for the show.
The project was made possible by the support of businesses in the county who sponsored each page in the calendar and also the seven Carmarthenshire Area Committees, the Young Farmers Clubs and Ladies Committee who agreed whole heartedly to take part in the photographs.
The calendar raised an amazing amount of £18,750 which was shared between the three organisations.
At a special event that followed the AGM, which was compered by the Chairman Meirion Owen, the Royal Welsh Agricultural show President Jones presented a cheque to Prostate Cymru Trustee John Daniels and committee member Brian Harries for £8,250 which included donations amounting to £2,000 in lieu of presents when he celebrated his birthday.
