The world famous Treorchy Male Choir performed in aid of Prostate Cymru at Albany Road Baptist Church in Roath, Cardiff on Thursday 9th November. The sold out concert raised the incredible sum of £3483.32 through donations for Prostate Cymru, the leading prostate health charity in Wales supporting men with benign prostate disease and prostate cancer.
Following an awareness session provided by Prostate Cymru’s Head of Awareness Dai John and Ambassador Ray Giles in 2016, the renowned ensemble decided to fundraise for the charity. Fans filled the church in Roath to enjoy an excellent concert by the choir and soloists with a varied programme including Welsh favourites such as Calon Lân. Prostate Cymru’s Chairman Andy Thomas, who was in attendance with other representatives from the charity, thanked the choir, church and audience for supporting the charity and said a few words about Prostate Cymru’s work.
The popular choir was established in 1883 and is recognised as one of the greatest choral ensembles of all time. The choir has won a number of National Eisteddfod competitions, toured in a number of countries including Canada and Australia and performed alongside famous artists such as Tom Jones, Leo Sayer and Max Boyce. Currently the choir has over 80 members, accompanied by pianist Helen Roberts and conducted by musical director Jeffrey Howard. The concert for Prostate Cymru marked Jeffrey’s 100th performance with the choir and members presented their conductor with a special signed canvas to commemorate the occasion.
