Year 10 pupils at Bryntirion Comprehensive School in Bridgend have won £1000 for Prostate Cymru at a First Give competition held at their school. First Give work in partnership with secondary schools to encourage and help young people to give their time, tenacity and talents to improve their local communities. The scheme helps develop skills such as teamwork, research and public speaking to motivate young people to dedicate these skills to support charities and contribute to their community.
To win the first prize of £1000 for their chosen charity Prostate Cymru, Rajib Ahmed and Carwyn Hopkins had to create a presentation about the charity and deliver it to their peers, teachers and judges. The duo presented to over 100 people and also made and edited a video to include in the presentation.
The competition is the latest event that the pupils have supported Prostate Cymru in. In October 2017, Rajib, Carwyn and fellow student James created and delivered a fun and informative presentation about the prostate to their classmates for the community challenge section of the Welsh Baccalaureate. Rajib and Carwyn were joined by more friends for a stall at the school’s Christmas Fayre on 6th December. They engaged pupils with games of Mario Kart, sold sweets and Prostate Cymru items. Their dedication and commitment was recognised by the charity in 2018 with the students nominated for the Young Fundraisers Of The Year award at Prostate Cymru’s annual Ambassadors Lunch event.
