Over two thousand people took part in the CARTEN100 on Saturday 1st June. The 100 mile ride saw participants including Prostate Cymru’s Chairman Andy Thomas and ambassador John Devereux ride from Cardiff to Tenby over twelve hours. The event was held later in the year than originally planned due to the dangerous weather conditions of Storm Hannah at the end of April.
A variety of people took part in the ride which aimed to ride out health taboos by supporting Prostate Cymru and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust as the nominated charities. The youngest participant was just eleven years old and completed the ride in six hours and 59 minutes. Some participants took part on interesting cycles including a next bike and a penny farthing.
A number of volunteers from Prostate Cymru’s friendship groups such as the Cardiff & Vale Friends of Prostate Cymru, Carmarthenshire Friends of Prostate Cymru and Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru helped out at the feed stations along the route in Baglan, Carmarthen and at the finish line in Tenby. The helpful volunteers handed out water and food to the extremely grateful cyclists as they rested at the feed stations.
