There are 3 main issues associated with the prostate gland.
Prostate cancer
The most common cancer diagnosed in the UK. Most prostate cancer grows slowly and may never cause any problem however some can grow quickly and become aggressive and spread to other parts of the body. Early stage prostate cancer is treatable and has good survival rates if caught early. Most men with early stage prostate cancer won’t have any symptoms.
Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH)
This is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. It can affect men’s urinary flow due to the prostate squeezing on the urethra (water-pipe). Common in men around 50yrs of age. This condition is treatable and can improve by addressing the type of fluid intake consumed, such as decreasing the intake of caffeine and alcohol. Medication or surgery may be suggested to improve symptoms.
Prostatitis
Inflammation of the prostate gland due to infection however can cause symptoms such as pain if there is no evidence of infection. Can be difficult to treat.
