Ashburnham Golf Cub ls one the oldest Golf Clubs in Wales having been formed in 1894. This year’s Captain Robert Hughes decided that Prostate Cymru would be the beneficiary at his Charity Golf Day having been diagnosed with prostate cancer himself in 2020
The event attracted 160 golfers in 40 teams who enjoyed a superb day of golf which was expertly organised by fellow club member Nigel Powell
Prostate Cymru benefitted by the outstanding sum of £6,829 as a result of entry fees and a well-supported auction and raffle. In presenting the cheque Robert said “When I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer it came as a shock as I was completely unaware that I had it. This made me realise that I had to ensure that as many men as possible should be aware of the risk of prostate cancer and its symptoms and that is the main reason for the charity benefitting from my Golf Day by both raising awareness and money”
The Chair of Carmarthenshire Friends of Prostate Cymru Deryc Rees in thanking Robert and the participants at the Golf Day said “We are very grateful for this excellent donation for Prostate Cymru from such an outstanding Golf Day which undoubtedly raised awareness of prostate cancer amongst the participants and will also be instrumental in improving awareness and funding innovations”
Receving the cheque are Carmarthenshire Friends of Prosate Cymru chairman Deryc Rees and committee member Brain Evans from Club Captain Robert Stevens and the event organiser Nigel Powell.
