A group from Prostate Cymru attended the Third Sector Awards Cymru on Thursday 4th March at the Hilton Hotel in Cardiff. The Third Sector Awards Cymru are organised by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action to recognise the work carried out by charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises. Hosted by BBC radio and television presenter Jason Mohammad, the glamorous awards evening shone a spotlight on a range of not for profit organisations from across Wales.
Prostate Cymru’s event The Big Walk was shortlisted for the ‘Award for innovative fundraising’ which recognises organisations who have run campaigns or events demonstrating creativity and innovation in fundraising. The Big Walk is the longest and most challenging group charity walk in Wales with a distance of 30 miles from the Principality Stadium to Kenfig Hill RFC and approximately 9 hours of walking. Founded in 2014, the walk has raised £33,000 to date and has helped raise awareness of prostate cancer.
Prostate Cymru was joined on the ‘Innovative Fundraising’ shortlist by Merched Y Wawr, NewLink Wales and Solas Cymru. Merched Y Wawr won the award for their campaign ‘Ategolion at y Galon’ (Accessories for the Heart) which has helped raise £23,000 for the British Heart Foundation. Prostate Cymru would like to congratulate Merched Y Wawr on their well-deserved success. Despite not winning, Prostate Cymru and fellow runners up NewLink Wales and Solas Cymru were also presented with trophies for being finalists and to recognise the contribution they make to the people of Wales.
