On 1st November 2015, nine members of Kenfig Hill Rugby Club’s first XV began growing beards for Prostate Cymru and Parkinson’s UK. The team, consisting of Matthew Tossell, Chris Tossell, Shaun Burnell, Daniel Dryden, Evan Williams, Jamie Tudor, Shaun Evans, Ashley Hickey and Tom Briggs, decided to fundraise for the charities to support a family member who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and to continue raising awareness in the community in Kenfig Hill about prostate issues especially prostate cancer.
The team set themselves the challenge of not shaving for 32 weeks. On 1st May, the group organised a rugby vs football match at Kenfig Hill to help fundraise for the challenge. In addition to the sport, live entertainment was provided by South Wales based band Catching Kate and a charity raffle was held with amazing prizes such as a signed Exeter Chiefs rugby ball, signed Wales football jersey and Wales vs England football tickets.
Following Prostate Cymru’s event The Big Walk 2016 on Saturday 11th June, the team held their shave off in Kenfig Hill RFC. The Be Brave, Don’t Shave team and Prostate Cymru would like to thank Beci Rees and Sherree Leyshon who conducted the shaving for the team.
