This is their next adventure in 10 months of fundraising, organising and holding events.
Chris, Mike, Ben and Stephen have worked tirelessly to fundraise for their trip and to raise as much money as possible for Prostate Cymru. This was made possible by the fantastic support from the local community, local business and especially Kenfig Hill RFC the group have raised over £21000.
To achieve this wonderful figure they have – organised bucket collections at Swansea Train Station and Bridgend Tesco, completed sponsored runs such as Tenby 10k and Beast y Bryn, they also held a charity car washes at Pyle Fire Station. The group has also organised a number of events such as a Ladies Night, sponsored head shaves and waxing, a cake sale at a local comprehensive school, a Summer Ball, and a well attended Touch Rugby 7s tournament. In addition to this they have also organised raffles throughout the year and sold badges and wristbands.
The biggest event of all was The Big Walk, which is likely to become an annual event, raised an incredible £9000. This event saw over 50 walkers trek from the Millennium Stadium to Kenfig Hill RFC on an epic 29.4 mile walk along the A48. Warren Gatland started the event and set the walkers off for their arduous trek which took 9 hours in alternating rain and sunshine. This showed the passion and the enthusiasm for their efforts and for the charity that the boys had managed to foster.
On Saturday 11th October the boys held one final event at Kenfig Hill RFC – The Bon Voyage party. A well-attended send off in the club was coupled with the unveiling of a video of their efforts, along with live music from The Voice and Nation Radio’s Ragsy. Ray Giles, Prostate Cymru Ambassador, extended thanks and best wishes to the group on behalf of Prostate Cymru adding how inspirational they had been with their creativity, determination and enthusiasm. He also expressed thanks to the local businesses and members of the community who had contributed in some way to the fundraising effort.
Everyone at Prostate Cymru wishes them the best of luck with this adventure!
