Reg Goddard from Camrose near Haverfordwest is one of Pembrokeshire’s best known characters. He and his family have, over the years, run a number of successful businesses but Reg always made sure he found time to pursue his great love of the outdoors. His love of fishing, shooting and surfing has taken him all over the world.
In particular, after surfing the beaches of Ireland, France and Pembrokeshire, Reg always promised himself that one day he would write a book documenting the countless tales and experiences he has accumulated during more than 30 years of surfing. When Reg was diagnosed with prostate cancer three years ago, this was the catalyst which resulted in the book ‘Surfing Pembrokeshire –The early years’. The entire publication has been sold and Reg has generously donated all proceeds to Prostate Cymru, which amounts to the grand sum of £2,000.
2500 men in Wales are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year and 550 men in Wales die each year from the disease. Prostate Cymru works closely with medical experts and the goal of the charity is to improve Welsh prostate health all across the country by helping with funding to improve equipment, provide funding for the training of surgeons and other medical staff and also funding an ever growing awareness campaign.
