On Friday 15th February the Prostate Cymru team held an awareness stand at Tesco Extra in Bridgend. The team including the charity’s Sports and Community Executive Chris Leyshon, awareness volunteer Ian Norton and specialist urology nurse Gaynor Newton spent the day at Tesco chatting to customers and staff about the charity’s work and raising awareness of prostate issues such as benign prostate disease and prostate cancer.
The charity’s team will be visiting a number of different supermarkets and retail parks in South East Wales over the next few months to raise awareness. It is hoped that in future we will be able to extend this scheme across Wales.
At each site there will be a member of Prostate Cymru staff, an awareness team representative and a specialist urology nurse to speak to and at many of the stores, the charity’s vehicle “The Boys’ Bus” will be there to offer those worried about prostate issues an opportunity to chat confidentially with our nurse in a private area. The “Boy’s Bus” vehicle has kindly been provided by Enterprise, sponsored by Dunraven and fuelled by Oil4Wales.
