Congratulations to everyone who took part in last month’s ‘Big Walk’ and a special thank you to surprise guests, rugby players Gethin James and Rhys Priestland who cheered and supported the team as they set off.
A team of 170 took part and walked an incredible 30miles from the Millennium Stadium to Kenfig Hill RFC. Taking the walk’s motto “Believe, Commit, Succeed” to heart, the group tackled the challenge with a positive mental attitude as they followed the route through Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend. The walk took approximately 9 hours and the team were met with a large welcome party of friends and family and post-walk entertainment provided by the rugby club including live music by Jaxed.
The first walk took place last year and saw Warren Gatland and Lloyd Peers kick start the walk. A team of 70 walked last year and the total amount raised was an outstanding £9,000. This year we are proud to say that we not only beat the team numbers but also raised just under £22,000 more than doubling last years total. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped fundraise. The date for next year’s Big Walk will be announced shortly and we would love other rugby clubs to get involved. If you are interested in organising a walk from the Millennium Stadium back to your local club whilst supporting Prostate Cymru, please get in touch for further information.
