Christopher Follis from Ebbw Vale has completed an epic nine day challenge in aid of Prostate Cymru, the leading prostate health charity in Wales. Chris completed 136 miles of walking including summiting the three highest peaks in Wales: Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen Y Fan. Chris battled extreme weather including hot sun and heavy rain throughout his challenge which he documented on his JustGiving page.
Chris started his huge physical challenge on 22nd July in the rain at Llanberis. He successfully completed the climb of Snowdon on the same day in very wet and windy conditions before walking over 30 miles through North Wales over the following two days. Chris had sunnier conditions for his climb of Cadair Idris on 25th July followed by another 30 mile stretch on 26th July to reach the small hamlet of Dolfor in North Powys. By day 6, 27th July, the walking and summiting of the peaks began to take its toll on Chris’ body as he contended with a painful ankle and sunburn on the 19 mile journey through Powys. The final three days saw Chris complete his trek through Powys and successfully summit Pen Y Fan, managing to avoid most of the poor weather. Chris was welcomed at Pen Y Fan on 30th July, his final destination, by his father Haydn with a congratulatory banner celebrating his achievement.
Over the course of his challenge Chris set up camp each night at various sites along the route and carried all the necessary kit, food and water over the full distance. Chris was kindly supported by a number of local cafes and camp sites along the route, offering their help and hospitality.
