Ian Booth and his team of golfers completed the Cross Country Golf Marathon and raised an incredible £10,000 for Prostate Cymru.
The team consisted of Peter Evans, Nick Jones, Mike Hnyda, Rhys Davies from The Royal Porthcawl, and Gareth Wilcox, Matthew Peet, Gary Munro and Ian Booth from Pyle and Kenfig.
They played 12 holes at Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club, and then played cross country between the two courses and from their 13th tee, played to the 4th green at Royal Porthcawl. They then continued around The Royal Porthcawl, to the eighteenth hole. Then played the first three holes there, before going back across country from the 4th tee to the 13th green at Pyle and Kenfig. They then played the final five holes, before finishing in the club at about 5:30pm.
After being diagnosed with Early Prostate Cancer in 2021, Ian Booth decided to choose Prostate Cymru as his chosen charity for his year of being the Captain of Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club.
Since his diagnosis, Ian has had a prostatectomy and is now in remission and excited to take on a new challenge.
Speaking about the challenge, Ian Booth said, “After being postponed by 4 weeks we were excited to get started on our challenge and push ourselves to get going on the Cross Country Golf Marathon. We had all types of weather on the day, from sunshine to torrential rain, which made it even more tiring and difficult, but playing golf across the dunes was an unbelievable experience.
We would like to say a massive thank you to the farmer who allowed us to play golf across his fields, and moved his cattle on for us, and to the hundreds of people who have supported us by fundraising and helping us on the day.
We raised over £10,000 for Prostate Cymru which is phenomenal, and really made the challenge worth it.”
