To celebrate his 60th birthday in October 2016 Danny Griffiths decided to embark on a year of fundraising for Prostate Cymru. Danny chose to support the charity as the cause is close to his heart following his father’s prostate cancer diagnosis.
The year of fundraising started with a dryathlon (a month without drinking alcohol) followed by two sporting events: a 5K run and Cardiff Half Marathon. In October, Danny also received donations to his JustGiving page in lieu of birthday presents. As 2017 approached, Danny planned a variety of events to get involved with. Over the course of the year he completed the Minchinhampton 10K, an abseil in Western Super Mare, Henley Tough Mudder, Liverpool Rock n Roll Half Marathon, a dance event in Milford Haven organised with the help of Pembrokeshire Jive and Lindy Group, Cardiff Triathlon, a zip wire in North Wales, Windsor Triathlon, Go Dad Run 5K, The Five Valleys Sportive and Cardiff Half Marathon 2017.
This incredible year of challenges helped Danny raise over £5000 for Prostate Cymru. He presented his fundraising total on 28th November at Laugharne Castle in Carmarthenshire to Ian Gravell, representing the charity as a member of the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru group. Danny was accompanied at the presentation by his partner Claire and his father.
