From Saturday 4th to Saturday 11th August Prostate Cymru attended the National Eisteddfod in Cardiff Bay. This year’s eisteddfod was an historic event to be a part of with an open Maes and the event not being ticketed. Based in a chalet near Craft in the Bay, the charity spoke to hundreds of people about prostate issues during the week. For the children attending the festival our mascot Wesley The Walnut made appearances and a lucky dip with surprise Prostate Cymru prizes was played.
Over the week of the festival the office team Owen, Chris, Catherine and Hannah were joined at the event by urology nurses Gaynor Newton and Janet Marty, trustees Andy Thomas, Gareth Williams, John Daniels and Lyn Murray, ambassador S4C weatherman Chris Jones and awareness volunteers Simon Moffett and Dai John. Both Welsh and English were spoken on the stand including attempts at Welsh from the learners.
In addition to speaking to members of the public, businesses and other charities such as Macmillan Cymru, a number of notable figures visited tge stand to learn about the charity’s new awareness campaign ‘Look After Your Third Nut’. People who visited the stand included Conservative AM Mohammad Asghar, Plaid Cymru AMs Adam Price, Helen Mary Jones and Leanne Wood, Labour AMs Mark Drakeford and Baroness Eluned Morgan, First Minister Carwyn Jones, Lord Dafydd Wigley, broadcaster Roy Noble, singer Rhys Meirion and Hollywood actor Rhys Ifans.
