Carmarthen local, Bronwen Griffiths, has raised money for Prostate Cymru by making face masks throughout the pandemic.
Bronwen Griffiths from Bronwydd near Carmarthen, initially produced protective equipment for frontline staff at the outset of the COVID pandemic.
Whilst there was a serious shortage of protective equipment for frontline Bronwen Griffiths produced wash bags for the maternity unit at Glangwili Hospital, where her daughter Anwen is a Nurse, and also face masks for staff at Care Homes in the Carmarthen area.
Such was the popularity and quality of her products that she began to receive requests from friends and throughout the community to produce masks that could be purchased.
This coincided with her husband Hywel being diagnosed with prostate cancer and receiving treatment which turned out to be successful.
The outcome was that £400 was raised through the sales, which Bronwen decided to donate to Prostate Cymru.
At the cheque presentation Bronwen said, “I wanted to play my part in supporting the NHS and when I started selling the masks I decided to recognise the wonderful treatment that Hywel had recived by making a donation to Prostate Cymru.
Receiving the cheque, Carmarthenshire Friends of Prostate Cymru Chairman Deric Rees stated, “Bronwen has shown a wonderful example of both supporting the NHS frontline staff when they needed it most at the commencement of the pandemic and then going onto raise funds for Prostate Cymru to assist men in Wales affected by prostate cancer”.
