Fishguard Choir held its annual general meeting with special guest Brian Harries, Chairman of the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru group. He was there to receive a cheque for £1,200 for the charity, a sum raised by Fishguard Choir at their annual summer concert.
The concert, held at Blaenconin Chapel, Llandissilio, in June, featured guest soloists Jessica Robinson and Steffan Rhys Hughes, both renowned nationally. The choir was conducted by Amanda Lawrence and accompanied by Margaret Rhys.
Jessica Robinson, who hails from Pembrokeshire, is a soprano whose love for singing began when competing in local eisteddfodau when she was young. Jessica studied opera performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and is now a successful freelance singer who has performed both nationally with renowned male voice choirs and internationally.
Steffan Rhys Hughes, a tenor from North Wales, was also a frequent competitor at eisteddfodau. Since completing a music degree at Cardiff University, Steffan’s career has gone from strength to strength. Steffan is a member of award winning group Only Men Aloud, presents a musical theatre show on BBC Radio Cymru and voices Welsh children’s cartoons on S4C. Steffan has supported Prostate Cymru previously, performing the Welsh National Anthem at the start of the charity’s Big Walk event in 2018.
