Around two hundred cyclists joined Prostate Cymru ambassador John Devereux at Margam Country Park, Port Talbot for the fourth annual Five Valleys Sportive on Sunday 4th September. Just over three quarters of the participants opted for the longer route of seventy two miles, tackling the steep climbs of the Bwlch and Rhigos mountains whilst about a quarter of cyclists chose the shorter but equally challenging route of fifty four miles.
The Five Valleys Sportive saw a range of cyclists enter, from amateurs to members of cycling clubs. Some participants took part as individuals such as Prostate Cymru ambassador and former rugby union and league player John Devereux for whom the event was his first sporting event for the charity and his first long distance cycle. Others took part in the event as teams of friends, family and colleagues such as the groups from KSR Electronic Systems, Cuddy Environmental and the Royal Welsh Band. A group of cyclists taking on the Barcelona 2 Monaco cycle in mid-September also got involved by using The Five Valleys Sportive as a practice ride for their upcoming challenge.
Prostate Cymru would like to thank all those who helped make the event a success including, but not limited to, John Pritchard, Pat Pritchard and Ray Giles (event organisers), St John’s Ambulance (first aid), Onit Sports (mechanical assistance), Elm Spring Water (water sponsor), Race Timing Solutions (chip times) and S I Sports Images (photography).
