218 cyclists took part in the sixth annual Five Valleys Sportive for Prostate Cymru at Margam Park, Port Talbot on Sunday 16th September. About three quarters of the participants opted for the longer route of seventy two miles, tackling the steep climbs of the Bwlch and Rhigos mountains whilst about a quarter of cyclists chose the shorter but equally challenging route of fifty four miles. The cyclists battled against rain and wind throughout the route and were rewarded with a medal at the finish line.
Cyclists aimed to raise money for the charity through their participation in the event, pledging to raise a minimum of £25 in sponsorship. Incentives to receive limited edition Prostate Cymru cycling kit, created by cycling specialists Tineli, encouraged participants to fundraise.
Thanks to the efforts of the cyclists and the generosity of their friends, family and colleagues The Five Valleys Sportive 2018 has raised a magnificent £16,132.05 for Prostate Cymru.
The charity would like to thank everyone who fundraised and would like to congratulate the following cyclists who were awarded the top fundraiser prizes for The Five Valleys Sportive 2018 for raising the highest individual sponsorship totals:
1. Matthew Woodiwiss
2. Philip Parsons
3. James Bateman
