The Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru have been given a New Year’s boost thanks to the fundraising efforts of a local man.
Frank Hart of Milford Haven had undertaken the challenge of growing his beard for an entire year. He shaved it off at a hugely successful charity fundraiser recently which was supported by Martha’s Vineyard and attended by former British Lion, Wales and Pontypool Front Row legend Graham Price as a keen supporter of Prostate Cymru.
The shave off was expertly conducted by Michael Todaro of Todaro’s Hairdressing.
Raising in excess of £4,500 – over £1000 of which was raised on the night from the proceeds of raffle and auction prizes donated by many local businesses and rugby regions, Frank wanted to support a charity close to his heart.
“My aim has been to raise awareness of prostate cancer and support Welsh men in their treatment of the illness. I have received a great deal of support and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed” he said.
Frank’s fundraising challenge has been supported by the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru, as well as his employer, South Hook LNG who recognised Frank’s novel fundraising approach with a financial donation through the Company’s Staff Community Engagement scheme.
“This has been a superb effort by Frank over the last twelve months in not only raising such a magnificent sum, but also in heightening awareness of the disease which affects 1 in 8 men in the principality and 1 in 3 if there is a family history,” commented Ralph Rees of The Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru.
It is still possible to support Frank by visiting his JustGiving page. It is hoped that the final amount raised will reach the £5000 mark. Visit his page here: www.justgiving.com/FrankHart-Beard/
