The Insurance Institute of Cardiff will be supporting Prostate Cymru, the leading prostate health charity in Wales, from May 2018 – 2019. The group are a regional branch of the Chartered Insurance Institute, a professional body dedicated to building public trust in insurance and also have a young professionals sub-group called Novus. The institute run a number of continuing professional development courses and social events for members.
Following their AGM in April, Simon Marriott was elected to become the President of the Insurance Institute of Cardiff for the year commencing May 2018. During his year in office Simon has chosen to support Prostate Cymru through a number of events and has offered to support the charity’s awareness team by sharing his own personal experience. Simon was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the age of 44 and is passionate about raising awareness of the disease which is the most common cancer diagnosed in men in Wales and the third biggest cancer killer in the UK.
Speaking about supporting the charity, Simon said: “I know how important it is that everyone knows about this disease and raising awareness is paramount to ensuring treatment is received as early as possible.”
Simon and the Insurance Institute of Cardiff will be raising funds for the charity at a number of events during the year including a champagne and strawberries lunch, a ladies fashion evening, a charity dinner and the President’s Challenge.
