From June to August 2018 Prostate Cymru was joined by Cardiff University English Language & Linguistics student Hannah Reynolds who was undertaking a Santander internship with the charity.
Hannah applied for the internship and was helped by the Futures Connect team who reviewed both her CV and cover letter. She met her careers advisor who advised her on how to use the university’s work experience portal and helpful tips of how to apply for a marketing role such as Prostate Cymru’s summer events and marketing position. The Cardiff University team were very proactive and willing to help at every opportunity, a dedication that continued throughout her internship at the charity.
Studying a humanities subject as a degree, Hannah was struggling to know what industry to enter after she graduates next year. She was interested in Marketing and Events Management but having no experience in a workplace in this area she decided to apply for the charity’s internship to gain relevant experience. The internship helped Hannah be sure of the career path she wanted to follow and she now plans to study a Masters degree in Strategic Marketing following the completion of her undergraduate course.
Hannah was involved in many marketing campaigns during her time with the charity such as the Third Nut campaign, The Five Valleys Sportive, The Big Walk and The Big Breakfast. She also attended events of the charity’s summer roadshow such as the Bridgend Show, Vale of Glamorgan Show and Eisteddfod where she worked with the awareness team and volunteers to improve the nation’s understanding of prostate diseases such as benign prostate disease and prostate cancer.
Hannah commented, “Working in the third sector can be challenging and being part of a team of five people, the work Prostate Cymru do is amazing. I am so thankful to have been part of a small team so I have been able to not only stay within Marketing and Events but also get experience in advertising, business management, administration and public speaking.”
“My experience has been been amazing. I have gained relevant experience for my chosen career path, put something incredible on my CV and I have actually made a work family.”
