John Hackett, President of the Rotary Club of Haverfordwest, has challenged himself over lockdown to fundraise for Prostate Cymru and Rotary Causes.
When the pandemic hit, John was yet to get his first haircut of 2020 and therefore decided to raise money for a good cause and grow his hair out until the Rotary Club of Haverfordwest President Handover in July 2021.
When John braves the shave if the hair is acceptable, he will be donating the hair to a charity that makes wigs for cancer patients, however if not it can be re-used to manufacture felted mats products that soak up petrochemicals and help keep waterways clean.
Speaking about the fundraiser, John said, “A lot of the club fundraising previously has been via social events, however with the pandemic that hasn’t been possible so I am fundraising for two charities close to my heart.”
“I am raising money for Prostate Cymru as they do a lot for not only men in Wales, but provide services for their friends and families who have been impacted by a diagnosis of prostate cancer. I am also raising money for Rotary Charities, which support many local and international causes, not least that of trying to eradicate Polio in the wild.”

We are so grateful for anyone who decides to fundraise for us and would like to thank John for his creative fundraiser that will help us raise the funds needed to fulfil our core aims of raising awareness and supporting treatments and improving equipment for prostate diseases.
The charity sector has been hit hard by recent events and as a result we have lost a significant amount of fundraising this year due to lockdown restrictions and social distancing measures.
