Mark Jenkins from Porthcawl took part in the Long Course Triathlon Weekend in Pembrokeshire from Friday 13th July to Sunday 15th July in aid of Prostate Cymru. The Long Course Weekend is one of the most difficult triathlons in Wales, serving as the perfect preparation and build up to the Ironman Wales event held in September. Each individual event of the triathlon takes place on separate days of the weekend. Mark’s time over the three days was a brilliant fourteen hours and seventeen minutes.
Mark kicked off his gruelling challenge with a 2.4 mile swim on the Friday evening at Tenby’s iconic North Beach. On Saturday, Mark focused all his energies on the 112 mile cycle. The route starts and finishes in Tenby and involves undulating Welsh countryside, a tough feat in the recent hot weather. The route took Mark through many popular Pembrokeshire seaside towns including Saundersfoot, Pembroke, Stackpole and Manorbier. Finishing the weekend, Mark ran a marathon (26.2 miles) on the Sunday.
Mark has been collecting donations in person and online via his JustGiving page.
