Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club held a grand charity concert at the Follies Theatre, Folly Farm on Saturday 12th November. The concert was in aid of Prostate Cymru, Wales Air Ambulance, the Kidney Wales Foundation, the Paul Sartori Foundation and ShelterBox. Chairman of the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru Brian Harries accepted a cheque from the club for £1500 on the evening.
The concert featured a variety of musical styles including musical theatre, operatic arias and classic Welsh songs. Renowned Welsh tenor Rhys Meirion was one of the artists performing at the charity event. Rhys has recently starred in his own S4C series ‘Deuawdau’ in which he travels Wales and duets with famous Welsh singers. A highlight of the concert for many was Rhys’ duet with Pembrokeshire tenor Trystan Llyr Griffiths. Trystan had travelled from Switzerland, where he is furthering his studies at the International Opera Studio, to perform in the concert.
Also performing at the grand concert were Whitland and District Male Voice Choir and three former Rotary Young Musician winners: Ysgol Preseli pupil Esyllt Thomas, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama student Sioned Llewelyn and Birmingham Conservatoire student Aaron Kendall.
The rotary club previously supported Prostate Cymru at their Rotary Ride event in September, which saw 108 participants cycle from Narberth to Cresswell Quay for the charity. The club has also received an awareness session from Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru committee member Simon Moffett to raise awareness of prostate issues such as benign prostate disease and prostate cancer amongst its members.
