Newport County Athletic Football Club turned blue for Prostate Cymru, the leading prostate health charity in Wales, on Saturday 7th September. The club known as ‘The Exiles’ are famous for playing in amber kits leading their supporters to be called the ‘Amber Army’. Whilst they played in their usual kit for their league two match against Port Vale, the squad trained and warmed up in blue Prostate Cymru t-shirts to raise awareness for the charity. Player Jamille Matt who scored the winning goal put his charity t-shirt back on for his post-match cool down and interview.
The club displayed a Prostate Cymru banner on the South stand which will be relocated around the pitch throughout the season. Other activities on the day included a bucket collection for the charity. Ten volunteers took part in the collection, with many having a story to share or personal connection to the cause. The enthusiastic volunteers handed out awareness leaflets, badges and wristbands and raised an amazing £535.48 for the charity.
