The Rotary Club of Haverfordwest broke all previous fundraising records at a Summer Barn Dance held at the County Showground on the 4th July this year. The headline act was the legendary Wurzels who were supported by Symphony Sid and the Swing Kings as well as the Johnny Owen Disco. They played to a packed house of more than 800 people and with the support of many generous sponsors the profit for the evening was a staggering £33,000.
The money was recently presented to Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru, a group which was set up earlier this year by Ray Williams OBE who is the Senior Ambassador for the Prostate Cymru charity and an Honorary Member of Haverfordwest Rotary Cub. Various groups in Pembrokeshire have so far this year raised close to £75,000 and with one in eight men likely to be affected by the disease, which becomes one in three if there is a family history, Pembrokeshire is playing a very significant role in the fight against Prostate Cancer in Wales.
