Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru recently celebrated a decade of dedication to Prostate Cymru, having raised an incredible £500,000 for the charity.
They celebrated their fantastic achievements with a special anniversary dinner in The Wolfe Inn, Haverfordwest.
Founded in 2014 by the late Ray Williams, former coaching organiser and secretary of the Welsh Rugby Union, the group has become a cornerstone of community fundraising efforts for prostate health awareness and research in Wales.
Ray Williams, who served as a Prostate Cymru Ambassador, also held the position of Chairman of Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru until his passing, leaving behind an enduring legacy.
In 2016, Prostate Cymru established the Travelling Fellowship Grant in honor of Ray Williams, aimed at promoting learning and research into prostate health.
Since then, Pembrokeshire Friends have embraced various creative and challenging fundraising initiatives.
In 2016, Frank shaved his beard to raise funds, and in 2019, John Daniels and Simon Moffett completed the Tour of Pembrokeshire.
Peter Kidney also made history as the first person to swim around Caldy Island, and Mostyn and Kay led the annual Christmas pudding run, starting in 2018.
One of the group’s most memorable feats was in 2019 when Meurig Harris raised £17,370 by driving a tractor to Ireland, further proving that no challenge is too great.
The group’s Lions Night, first held in 2017 at The Ocean, has also become a beloved annual tradition for Mostyn and Kay Griffiths, adding a fun and entertaining way to support this important cause.
Brian Harries, Chairman of Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru said,
“We are proud to see that Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru has been the catalyst for seven other Friendship Groups across Wales. It’s a testament to the power of community and how much can be achieved when people come together for a common cause. We’d like to sincerely thank the people of Pembrokeshire for their incredible support over the years—it’s been essential to our success and continued growth.”
Tina Tew, Chief Executive of Prostate Cymru, said “We are incredibly grateful to Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru for their unwavering dedication over the past 10 years. Raising £500,000 is a remarkable achievement, and their passion and commitment have made a significant impact in raising awareness and supporting prostate health across Wales. On behalf of Prostate Cymru, I’d like to thank every member of the group for their hard work.”
Here’s to another decade of making a difference!
