Gardening broadcasters and friends Terry Walton and Lynne Allbutt have launched a charity calendar for 2018 in aid of Prostate Cymru and the mental health charity Mind. Plot on the Landscape is packed full of great photos taken by Steve Thomas of the down to earth duo with humorous captions.
Launching the calendar Terry and Lynne said, “We hope these calendars will bring a smile to your face month by month. May they give you as much fun as we had producing them!”
Terry Walton has had an allotment in Rhondda Cynon Taf since the age of eleven and over fifty years later he still has one plot on the same allotment. Following his retirement in 2001, Terry began to broadcast from his allotment on the Jeremy Vine show on BBC Radio 2 and has since become a favourite with the listeners, sharing his gardening tips and experiences. Terry can also be heard frequently on BBC Radio Wales, Radio Bristol and Radio Hereford & Worcester. He writes a weekly article for Garden News and regularly contributes to WHICH gardening magazine.
In August 2012 Terry was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which was a massive shock to many of his family, friends and followers. Terry is dedicated to helping prostate cancer sufferers within Wales by sharing the story of the discovery of his own cancer. Terry is an ambassador for Prostate Cymru and regularly raises awareness of prostate cancer as a member of the charity’s awareness team.
Lynne Allbutt is a landscape gardener, writer, speaker, television presenter and radio contributor from Powys. Lynne writes a weekly column for Wales’ national newspaper The Western Mail and The Abergavenny Chronicle.
Lynne is well known for her love and appreciation of nature and the beneficial role it can play in health and wellbeing. Three years ago Lynne became the first person to run the width of Wales, an epic 52 miles, barefoot. The run, which helped Lynne process the impact of mental health issues in her family and other life experiences, became the subject of her 2015 autobiography ‘Barefoot and Before’. A section of her book is to be made into a feature film called Wildflower in 2018.
The calendar is now on sale for £8 (plus £1.60 shipping) and can be purchased via Paypal by visiting www.terryandlynne.com. £5 from each calendar sale will be donated to the pair’s chosen charities Prostate Cymru and Mind.
