The Porthcawl Lions Club held their annual charity golf day at The Grove Golf Club in Porthcawl on Friday 7th June for Prostate Cymru, Sandville Help Centre and Porthcawl Stroke Club. This is an annual show of support for the charity by Porthcawl Lions for which we are very grateful.
Despite awful wet weather, the golfers enjoyed the competition and helped raise £3000 which was split equally between the three nominated charities with each organisation receiving £1000. Prostate Cymru’s Chairman Andy Thomas accepted the cheque on behalf of the charity.
The winning team was South Wales Police (team 2) closely followed in second place by South Wales Police (team 1) and in third place, Commancheros. L Coates won the longest drive and Alex Williams won nearest the pin. In the Ladies competition Gutteridge’s Florists won the prize and Janise Hopkins won the longest drive. The prizes were presented by the Mayor of Porthcawl, Councillor Graham Walter, who congratulated the winning teams and expressed gratitude to the organisers, sponsors and teams who had braved the downpours.
