Cllr Graham Walter has been elected to serve as Mayor of Porthcawl for the next 12 months. Cllr Walter has represented the Newton ward as an independent councillor since 2011. The new Deputy Mayor is Cllr Brian Jones, also an independent, who represents the East Central ward.
The mayor has kindly chosen Prostate Cymru as one of his chosen charities. On appointment to the role, Cllr Walter said: “I will continue the tradition of fundraising for local charities and worthy causes throughout the year”. Alongside Prostate Cymru, the new mayor has also chosen to support two local causes: Porthcawl Veterans Hub and Porthcawl Museum.
Cllr Walter enjoys getting involved with local events and in December 2018 he helped organise the 54th annual Porthcawl Christmas Morning Swim. The charity greatly benefitted from the money raised at the Pothcawl swim last year as the nominated charity and several supporters of the charity took the dip including the Prostate Cymru Allstars, the charity’s Chairman Andy Thomas and President David Brace OBE. The annual Pothcawl Christmas swim sees thousands of swimmers brave icy sea waters at one of the UK’s largest Christmas Day swims. The theme last year was superheroes and the event raised around £10,000 for the nominated charities, £7000 of which was donated to Prostate Cymru.
