The second annual President’s Ball was held at The Towers Hotel & Spa, Swansea on Saturday 21st November. Organised by Prostate Cymru President David Brace OBE, the glamorous black tie event was enjoyed by all who attended.
The evening began in style as guests were treated to a champagne reception on arrival. Excellent cuisine followed and entertainment for the evening was provided brilliantly by The Johnny Zephyr Duo. The professional live rock n roll duo got everyone dancing as they performed a set list of 50s and 60s classics on authentic period guitars and amps.
Once again, the President’s auction proved to be a highlight of the event with many excellent prizes to bid on and raise money for Prostate Cymru. The list of prizes included a week in Marbella, luxury spa breaks and a 50” Sony smart TV. Although only eight prizes were included in the evening’s programme, the President surprised guests with two bonus prizes to bid for including Sam Warburton’s Rugby World Cup shirt from the epic England vs Wales game signed by the entire Welsh team. If that wasn’t exciting enough, there was also the chance to win ten other prizes such as an Amazon Fire tablet and cases of fine wine in the President’s raffle.
During the evening, a slideshow was projected onto the walls of the suite to shine a light on the hard work of fundraisers who had supported Prostate Cymru in the year since the last President’s Ball. Henry Durrant, one of the fundraisers, attended the evening and presented a cheque for £10,600 to Brian Harries, Chairman of the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru. Henry Durrant organised and completed the Run For Ray challenge in August for Prostate Cymru: a 186 mile run along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path over seven days (equivalent to a marathon a day) in memory of ambassador Ray Williams OBE.
