Prostate Cymru are thrilled to announce Welsh pro golfer Rhys Davies as a new Ambassador for the charity.
Rhys initially had to choose between playing cricket and golf professionally as he represented Glamorgan and Wales at junior cricket.
However, after winning the 2003 Boys Amateur Championship, he took up a scholarship at East Tennessee University. He won 10 times in US Collegiate golf, represented GB&I on two successive Walker Cups and reached number 2 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
He turned professional in 2007 and won the Trophy Hassan II tournament in Morocco on the European Tour in 2010. That same year he reached a career-high of number 44 in the Official World Golf Rankings and narrowly missed out on representing Europe in the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor.
Rhys enjoyed Team golf success in 2011 when he represented Europe, against Asia in the Royal Trophy in Thailand and Wales in the 2011 World Cup.
To celebrate Rhys supporting the charity, he will be endorsing Prostate Cymru’s upcoming golfing event, Dawn till Dusk.
Discussing being a celebrity ambassador for Prostate Cymru, Rhys said,
‘”I’m really pleased to be an ambassador for Prostate Cymru’s Dawn till Dusk golf challenge. Golf is a great sport to encourage people to talk about life difficulties, and hopefully, the week will encourage everyone to look after themselves and their loved ones. I wish everyone the best of luck with the challenge and buy plenty of Prostate Cymru golf balls as 72 holes present lots of opportunities to lose them.””
With Prostate Cancer being the number one diagnosed cancer in the UK and 1 in 8 men in Wales being affected by the disease it is so important for us to get the word out and help raise awareness.
Our ambassadors help fundraise for Prostate Cymru by participating in some of our various events over the year and supporting us as we raise awareness about prostate disease.
Chief Executive of Prostate Cymru, Tina Tew said, “We are delighted to have Rhys on board with the charity as our first golfing ambassador. We are excited to working closely with Rhys and continue our mission to ensure men in Wales have the best possible access to information, support and treatments.”.
The Dawn till Dusk challenge is to complete four rounds of golf from Dawn Till Dusk at any point during the longest week in June the week commencing 20th June 2022. More about this marathon challenge will be announced over the coming month.
