2023 will mark 20 years since Prostate Cymru was established as a prostate health charity for Wales.
To commemorate this milestone Prostate Cymru is teaming up with acclaimed Welsh artist Nathan Wyburn to produce a bespoke piece of artwork, which will be an acknowledgement of the last two decades.
The public have an opportunity to be part of the commission, with the charity asking those who have an association with them currently or previously to submit a personal photo that is reflective of their link.
Ebbw Vale born artist Nathan Wyburn has achieved recognition for his ability to create distinct pop culture imagery using non-traditional mediums, from food to household objects.
The Prostate Cymru piece will be created using a compilation of photos from all aspects of the charity, illustrating a 20-year narrative.
The piece will be a celebration of those who have battled prostate cancer, those working on the frontline to improve services for men in Wales, and the charities fundraising over the past 20 years.
Speaking about the project Prostate Cymru CEO, Tina Tew said.
“We have been admirers of Nathan’s work for some time and being a Welsh charity are delighted to be working with such a talented local artist.”
“In 2023 we will celebrate our 20th Birthday and it is an opportunity to look back, but also celebrate the future. People have always been at the heart of what we do, so it made sense to find a way that we can honor all the fantastic individuals from past and present.”
“I am hoping that anyone who has had a link with the charity will submit an image, so that we can tell the real Prostate Cymru story.”
The finished artwork will be revealed in Spring 2023 and be on display at various Welsh landmarks.
Nathan Wyburn said.
“I am really excited to be part of this project. Learning more about the facts relating to prostate health has been a real eye opener. Every 45 minutes a man in the UK dies of prostate cancer, it is likely that at some point me and others will know someone affected.”
“20 years is a massive milestone, and the artwork will represent the journey that both the charity and the public have been on.”
“Some photos will represent hope, positive times, in others there will probably be an element of sadness. To create a true picture, we need to show a breadth of emotions and experiences, but overall, it will symbolise promise and what has and can be achieved.”
