Prostate Cymru are thrilled to be the chosen charity of the Freemasons Corbet Lodge 1583 in Tywyn South Gwynedd.
Every year the Mater of a Masonic Lodge chooses a charity for the coming year, and this year John Williams, who is the newly appointed Master of Corbet Lodge, has decided to choose and support Wales’ leading prostate health charity.
Prostate Cymru is excited to spread greater awareness to men in Wales about the dangers of prostate cancer.
Speaking about the partnership, John Williams, said “As Master of Corbet Lodge 1583 I decided on Prostate Cymru as our chosen charity because over the past 3 years I have lost close personal friends, and masonic friends too, as a direct result of advanced prostate cancer.”
He continued, “My friends didn’t want to go to their GP’s, due to a combination of embarrassment and being fearful. They simply wouldn’t talk about it. I wanted to help change that attitude and mindset, as maybe my friend’s would be here now if only they hadn’t been so hesitant in discussing their poor personal distress.”
“Corbet Lodge 1583 is working with Prostate Cymru to raise awareness that it isn’t ‘weak’ to talk about ‘private’ symptoms. That by sharing….. a life might be saved…..ignorance is not an option! knowledge is key and we want to get the message into our wider community that “Sharing can save lives.”
Freemasonry is one of the oldest secular social and charitable organisations in the world, modern Freemasonry’s roots lie in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our castles and cathedrals.
For Freemasons, there are four important values that help define their path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity. And the greatest of these is Charity.
Prostate Cymru’s Corporate and Marketing Manager, Owen Pugsley said, “Working with John and Corbet Lodge next year is going to be fantastic for us, and through it’s strong community links, we are going to be able to make the men in North Wales aware of who we are and our vital health message. Throughout the year we are going to be creating a number of events to raise vital funds and awareness of the charity.”
One of the projects that John and Corbet Lodge will be organising is ‘Prosecco on the Platform’ for their members, friends and the wider community at Talyllyn Heritage Railway in Tywyn.
If you would like to know more about Corbet Lodge/Freemasonry please contact John Williams on [email protected].
The Event will be open to all and the Historic Talyllyn Railway is delighted to be involved with the event that will include a meal, prosecco, along with an awareness presentation and the historical train ride and tour!
Prostate Cymru’s key aims are to fund innovation, raise awareness, and educate men on the dangers of prostate cancer and disease.
