Prostate Cymru is pleased to announce Welsh paralympic racing cyclist, Simon Richardson MBE, and road racing cyclist, Sam Beckett, have been appointed as ambassadors for Prostate Cymru.
Both will be joining Prostate Cymru on the 14th of August 2022 for Wales’ premier sportive event, The Big Cycle.

The appointment is particularly poignant for Simon, who has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Speaking about his new role within the charity, Simon said, “As someone who has prostate cancer, it was an honour to be asked to support the charity and even better to be asked to start the ride on 14th August. I can’t wait to do the ride over some great Welsh roads. I like to support Welsh charities when I can and I know with Prostate Cymru all the money raised stays in Wales.”
Joining Simon as an ambassador is road racing cyclist Sam Beckett, who will also be starting The Big Cycle in August to help raise vital funds for Wales’ leading prostate health charity.
Sam is also a Medical Student at Cardiff University and will also be helping the charity as a Student Ambassador, promoting the charity travelling fellowships designed to help medical students specialising in urology fund their elective studies.
Talking about joining the team, Sam said, “Over the last few years I’ve had the privilege of being part of the Wales Racing Academy. This has allowed me to compete in races across the U.K. and Europe alongside some of the best in the sport. I’m keen to support Prostate Cymru as both a cyclist and a medical student. I endeavour to help the cause in any way I can.”
Prostate Cymru is the leading prostate health charity in Wales and has helped fund treatment options such as the Da Vinci robotic system, provided grants for medical professionals researching prostate cancer, and funded training for GPs.
Alongside its campaigns to revolutionise health care itself, Prostate Cymru also aims to spread awareness of the disease and help educate both the public and medical students.
