Ahead of Christmas, Simon Moffett of the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru group was invited to Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club’s final meeting before the holidays. At the meeting and dinner Simon was presented with a cheque for £750 by event organiser David Haward and Rotary Club President Elaine Bradbury, raised from their Rotary Ride event in September.
92 cyclists enjoyed the sunshine as they took part in Il Giro Di Pembrokeshire, Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club’s rotary ride event, on Sunday 1st September for Prostate Cymru and other rotary charities. Amongst the 92 participants were members of local cycling clubs such as Narberth Dynamos, Haverfordwest Hornets and Tenby Cycling Club.
Named after the famous Italian cycle race, the Giro d’Italia, famed for its steep and difficult climbs, the Pembrokeshire ride incorporated some of the county’s hills to create challenging rides. In 2019, there were four routes for participants to choose from: 10, 27, 50 and 75 miles. The routes increased in difficulty as the mileage increased, with more hills and challenges for the cyclists to face. From the family friendly 10 mile route to the new 75 mile route including the infamous “Cake Hill”, the rotary ride event had something for everyone.
