The Father’s Day Rotary Ride campaign was organised by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland. The events held across the UK were in aid of Prostate Cymru, Prostate Cancer UK, Prostate Scotland and the Irish Cancer Society. A number of clubs in Wales organised cycling events in June to raise money for Prostate Cymru.
A special presentation evening was held at the Ivy Bush Hotel in Carmarthen on Thursday 22nd October to coincide with the Rotary 1150 District Council’s meeting. Prostate Cymru’s Head of Awareness, Dai John, attended the evening and provided an awareness session to the clubs in attendance. Dai’s informative presentation mixes facts about prostate disease with amusing props and songs.
Following Dai’s awareness session, past District 1150 Governor Sandra Townsend presented the cheque for this year’s rotary ride and revealed that the event had raised over £9000 in its inaugural year. Dai John also presented certificates from Prostate Cymru to each club that had been involved in the rotary ride this year to recognise their individual contributions.
It has been confirmed that the Rotary Ride will be back in 2016. Prostate Cymru looks forward to working with the Welsh rotary clubs again next year.
