Rotary clubs across Wales said ‘Get on your bike!’ to prostate cancer on Father’s Day 2015.
Members of Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club took part in the ride which began at 10am at the Bloomfield Community Centre in Narberth. The club was extremely pleased to have Prostate Cymru trustee and Haverfordwest Rotarian John Daniels and Pembroke Rotarian Paul Harries (formerly from Narberth) in attendance to support the event. The event finished at The Creselly Arms, Cresswell Quay with a fantastic and well-earned barbeque courtesy of Colin Evans.
Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club would like to thank David Hayward for organising the routes, Bob and Barbara Rumbold for assisting with registration, John Sleigh for driving the Sag Wagon kindly donated by Gravells Narberth and Huw and Mary Adams who marshalled the event.
Fishguard and Goodwick Rotary Club’s event forged a link with the Rotary Club of Wexford in Rosslare, Ireland. Eight members from Fishguard and Goodwick’s club ‘cycled’ 106km across the Irish Sea for three and a half hours on an exercise bike on deck 9 of a ferry in their ride sponsored by Stena Line. On disembarkation at Rosslare, Fishguard and Goodwick’s cyclists were met by Wexford’s Rotarians and enjoyed generous hospitality including an exchange of traditional songs from both nations.
Event organiser Richard Goswell commented, “[It was] a most successful and enjoyable day which has broken new ground. Substantial funds were raised both on the ferry and through generous sponsorship of the bikers, all in aid of Prostate Cymru.”
In Carmarthenshire, the Rotary Club of Cefn Sidan held an afternoon ride at Pembrey Racing Circuit where riders including thirty rotary members could choose the route length of the 1.45 mile circuit that they wished.
