This year, 35 members of staff at the Royal Gwent Urology Department are going to be taking part in The Big Walk for Prostate Cymru.
During the last fourteen weeks the Royal Gwent Urology department has had to change the way it works.
The team have had to adapt to current circumstances by changing to telephone appointments rather than face to face, utilising all hospitals within ABUHB for diagnostic scans, as well as so much more.
Their constant focus has been to continue to support men in Wales with prostate cancer and the hard work that they do for men in Wales is incredible.
They’ve decided this year to come together as a team and take on The Big Walk head on.
Talking about their The Big Walk challenge, Gemma Wham, Macmillan Healthcare Support Worker, said “Even during the current COVID pandemic, the men of Wales and their prostates are still very much in our thoughts. As always, we are still working hard here for you in the Urology department at RGH! We are trying to raise as much funds as possible for this worthy cause and are rising to the challenge of walking 26 miles to raise awareness of prostate cancer.”

The charity sector has been hit hard by recent events and as a result we have lost a significant amount of fundraising this year due to lockdown restrictions and social distancing measures.
Teams coming together like the Royal Gwent Urology Department helps us to raise the funds needed to fulfil our core aims of raising awareness and supporting treatments and improving equipment for prostate diseases.
