Bridgend Male Choir and Parc and Dare Brass Band joined forces for a St David’s Gala Concert in aid of Prostate Cymru on Valentine’s Day. The decision for the ensembles to share the concert proved popular as every ticket was sold, making the event even more special as the ensembles performed to an enthusiastic, full audience.
Charismatic compere Gareth Davies guided the audience through the impressive programme. Bridgend Male Choir opened with concert with popular Welsh tunes including “Men of Harlech” before performing a selection of European and Opera songs, some of which helped the choir win the male voice section at Llangollen International Eisteddfod. Parc and Dare Band followed with a diverse selection ranging from Shostakovich’s “Suite for Variety Orchestra” to highlights from Disney’s “Frozen”. The first half concluded with a joint performance of “Llanfair”.
The second half of the concert featured a mixture of twentieth-century music and show tunes. The choir entertained the audience with a performance of “Bring Him Home” from Les Miserables in addition to songs from the musicals Sweet Charity and Miss Saigon. The band continued the modern theme with pieces like Hello Dolly and “Benedictus” from Karl Jenkins’ “The Armed Man”. The choir and band combined forces to finish the evening with a joint performance of “Gwahoddiad”. The audience showed their appreciation of a brilliant evening of music with a standing ovation.
