Oriel y Parc in St David’s was the venue recently for an evening of tutored wine tasting organised by David and Maura Kempster of St David’s Food and Wine in support of the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru. A full house was present for an enlightening evening in the company of Bruce Kendrick of Liberty Wines, a highly regarded wine expert, who regaled the audience as he tutored them in relation to the wines that were being tasted.
A total of £480 was raised both from the event and a contribution of £100 from the sale of 5p plastic bags at the St David’s Food and Wine Shop.
In presenting the cheque David Kempster said “When we decided to put on this evening we couldn’t think of a better charity than Prostate Cymru to receive the proceeds as so many men are affected with the disease that is prostate cancer.”
In receiving the cheque on behalf of the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru John Daniels said “This is another wonderful example of the community of St David’s giving their support to Prostate Cymru. The various events that have been held over the last two years have raised over £5,000”
Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru has been established to support the leading charity in the Principality in its work with medical professionals in the fight against prostate diseases benign and malignant.
It is their aim to develop “Awareness Campaigns in Pembrokeshire” together with procuring equipment and also to ensure that as far as possible that any such funds raised are used for the benefit of West Wales projects. Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer for men in Wales affecting 1 in 8 and 1 in 3 if there is a family history, causing the death of 550 and the diagnosis of 2547 with the disease each year.
