The Healthcare Music Society consists of two ensembles: an orchestra and a choir. The society brings together musically talented students from the healthcare subjects including medics and nursing students.
After a welcoming message from the society’s president Siwan Edwards, the concert began with music from film and television. The orchestra then captivated the audience with a faultless performance of the ‘Blue Danube’ under the baton of Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama student Chris Manners. The first half of the concert concluded with the choir performing the unique ‘Four Chord Song’. The medley played on the premise that most popular music is based on four chords and featured well-known songs such as Don’t Stop Believing and Let It Go from Frozen.
The choir opened the second half with Fields of Gold before the orchestra performed Waltz No 2 by Shostakovich. Following the choir’s rendition of ‘Say a Little Prayer’, presentations were made to graduating students and committee members. Jon Plimmer, choir conductor and compere of the evening, introduced an additional surprise item to the programme: an exclusive performance of a violin sonata composed by the society’s president. The evening finished with a joint performance of Anthem from the musical Chess by the orchestra and choir.
